The Creator’s Hands

By , September 4, 2011

Loaded the kiln, and realized I needed more small mugs than large mugs.  I need to rearrange the kiln before firing on Tuesday.   I had two weeks between my last show and the Clothesline festival, and did not have enough time to make enough pottery to fire twice, so I decided to relax.  I had lots of naps this week.  I needed them, and feel very refreshed now.  After the Clothesline, I will start making pieces for the holidays, and load up my etsy store.  I updated my one of kind teapot page with slide show, enjoy!

I received the news from Carleen, the Creator’s Hands, one of my consignment store, who decided to close the door at the end of  October. This is the first store who carried my work almost 20 years ago.  I knocked the door without any appointment, and asked carry my pottery.  They accepted even though I had very few potting experience before. I enjoyed the very good relationship with the store.  I knew she wanted to retire recent years, and am very happy for her to retire, but will miss the store greatly.

Heatwave

By , July 24, 2011

We are having the heatwave this week, hit 98°F on Thursday, and harboring around 92°F last couple days.  Glaze firing and bisque firing kept the studio even hotter.  The bisque cooling around 600°F when I entered the studio yesterday.  I decided to opened the rid earlier to cool off the studio for today. These radiant heat will not go away for a couple days unless opening  the rid.  I opened the rid slightly at 500°F, and opened fully at 400°F. Then the studio became really hot, yea, 100°F.  I threw one sectional pot, and assembled it.  The heat sped up the drying process, but that all I could handle yesterday.

I glazed and loaded the kiln in one day in 96°F studio. I guess yesterday’s  plan did not work.  It was insanely hot, but the forecast for tomorrow is a lot cooler, 80°F, perfect for the glaze firing.  I drunk 2 litters of tea during the glazing.  I think the body adjusted to the heat as a time goes by, except one point I though I would faint.  I went the bathroom and washed the face and upper body with cold water, that gave me enough time to finish the glazing.  Then, went the Sushi with my wife.  I will be ready for  Syracuse Arts and Crafts festival and the Park Avenue Summer Art Fest.

Clay delivered

By , May 26, 2011

I got 2150lb of clay delivered today, and howled them up to 4th floor.  Quite an exercise.  I am all set for the clay for the rest of year.  Studio is cramped with the clays .  Hard to find the floor space.  I need more space!

2150lb clay

Kiln is loaded for the fourth time in this month. It is expected 80+°F next week, so I decided to push in this one tomorrow.

I mailed my show schedule postcards and emails yesterday (my show schedule is here), and sanding and pricing, painting the booth back drops and cleaning shelves next week.  I found and ordered the similar plastic shelves, have not received them yet, hopefully this will be the good replacement.  I was thinking to build nice wood shelves, but the weight to the van makes me think otherwise. 12-14 plastic storage bins worth of  pottery and 24 wood shelves might be too much for my minivan.
